Comments:

It is with a sense of sadness that we list Skagerrak for sale. She’s been a great boat and has provided my wife and I many memorable days sailing in the Apostle Islands since we acquired her back in 1993. Prior to our owning her she was called the Anitra, and had a successful career as a racing boat out of the Duluth Yacht Club. I understand that she even won the Duluth Yacht Club “Boat of the Year” back in the 1970s. During her racing career, she successfully competed in a number of Trans Superior races as well as many other club races. The previous owners renamed her Skagerrak after the Skagerrak Sea in Sweden where she was built by the Scampi company in Alvdalen, Sweden.

Skagerrak has a nice airy salon and galley with a mahogany desk in the navigation station. The propane stove which includes a nice oven is located next to the galley sink swivels to make it easier to use under way. The front cabin comfortably sleeps two adults with the possibility of two beds in the main salon and one sleeping station near the aft Navigation/Radio station. A few years ago we had all cushions reupholstered and the windows were replaced and resealed by Siskiwit Bay Marina.

While she has a number of racing sails and spinnakers, we fitted her with a Hood roller furling system to make it easier for the two of us to set and adjust the head sail. In 1998 we replaced the Faryman diesel engine and hydraulic drive with a 9.9 HP 4-cycle Yamaha engine. This engine performs much better and is quiet and easier to maintain than the old Faryman diesel which was becoming a maintenance issue.

As we have aged, we are finding it more difficult to crew and handle sailing Skagerrak on the big lake.  We now find ourselves doing more traveling ashore and trailer sailing coastal waters with our Macgregor 26. Skagerrak has many years of good sailing left in her and we would like to see her continue to provide sailing enjoyment to other people.
